Morpeth’s Comrades Club On The Move!

Morpeth’s Comrades Club On The Move!

Members at Morpeth’s all new Comrades Club will be able to raise their glasses and sample their first pint in their new home this week.

The club has been relocated as part of the successful £32 million Sanderson Arcade development in Morpeth. The fantastic, brand new premises are based above the Arcade’s Edwardian style gallery with an access off the town’s Market Square.

The club has been based in the town since 1920, it was originally opened to give ex servicemen from The Great War somewhere to socialise - since then the membership has changed and grown and it’s hoped the new, modern premises will encourage even more members to join.

The relocation amounts to a major investment at the Comrades Club, the new premises have taken 12 weeks to complete and have been designed by South Yorkshire based AC Liani and fitted out by Tavern Developments.

With an outside roof garden, lift and entrance just off Market Square the new premises will give the Comrades Club much more flexible space – and scope to attract new members. The new club will house a function room, lounge and games and bar area with full size snooker tables.

Chairman Dennis Wheadons says members can’t wait to see their new club. He added: “This is a very exciting time for the Comrades Club and everyone is really looking forward to seeing the new club, this is a great step forward for us to have these fantastic new premises and we hope to be able to attract many new members. I want to thank everyone involved in delivering the new club for us here at Sanderson Arcade.”

The club is taking the first floor space along the run of shops in the arcade where Fat Face and Crew Clothing are based, the site of the old Comrades Club will complete the Sanderson Arcade development - delivering further retail and office space at the successful town centre scheme. Work is due to start on this next phase later in the spring.

Members will be able to view the new club at a special preview evening on Tuesday 13th April. The club opens to the public on Wednesday 14th April from 7pm.
