Arcade Launches the festive season with BIG lights Switch On event

The team at Sanderson Arcade in Morpeth held their biggest event of the year on Saturday 19th November as the Christmas lights were switched on by some very special guests.

The fun started at 2:30pm in the Piazza areas as Justin and Kelly from Heart FM’s Breakfast Show hosted games and competitions throughout the afternoon.

Mr & Mrs Claus were extremely well received in their grotto which could be found on the Terrace area handing out Stratstone Tyneside BMW Santa hats and delicious chocolate lollies to the youngsters.

At 3pm more than 35 children from the Morpeth All Saints School performed a selection of festive songs to the crowd followed by the ladies at Healthlands Ladies Gym demonstrating a routine to ‘keep fit, keep warm’ this Christmas.

The 2015 X Factor finalist Kiera Weathers then took to the stage and just before 5pm the winner of the ‘Wish List’ competition which included a £500 shopping spree as well as a BMW Stratstone car for the weekend was announced as Ben Marlowe.

Right on time at 5.00pm, the brand new Christmas decorations including the Tree of Light were switched on by Mr & Mrs Claus, Rhona Dunn founder of the Tree of Light, Mr Paul Cook the President of the Morpeth Rotary Club, Lainya Shearer, Patron of the Alan Shearer Foundation, Justin and Kelly from Heart Radio, Kiera Weathers and Mr David Guy from Stratstone BMW, sponsor of the Christmas Lights event.

The big switch on was then followed by a festive fireworks display in the skies above Morpeth.

Centre manager at Sanderson Arcade Medi Parry said: “We were delighted with the turn out on Saturday and we hope that everyone likes our new Christmas decorations. The festive fireworks display was an added extra this year just to add that little bit of festive sparkle.
