New chocolate shop unwrapped at Sanderson Arcade!

The artisan chocolatier Gareth James is preparing to open his brand new chocolate emporium at Morpeth’s Sanderson Arcade this week – just in time for some very special Easter treats.

The new store which can be found along the Arcade’s gallery will open on Saturday April 12th – and there are plans for the new upstairs café and tea room to be unveiled later in the month.

Headed by 23-year-old Gareth James Mellor the company has built up a reputation for luxury chocolate, cakes and truffles from a stylish chocolate shop and café in Tynemouth, which opened in 2010.

Gareth and his team will run the Tynemouth and Morpeth shops together with the new Arcade store as the base for most of their chocolate production.

The 2,200 sq. ft. unit along the Arcade’s gallery is over two floors, on Saturday the ground floor shop will open, showcasing Gareth’s unique and contemporary style and flavours.

Before opening his Tynemouth shop Gareth worked with the award winning chocolatier Paul Young as well as pastry chef Terry Laybourne at 21 Queen Street and Jesmond Dene House.

The young chocolatier loved experimenting with flavours and tempting gin and tonic, Newcastle Brown and orange blossom water truffles can be found alongside traditional favourites.

Gareth, who works with his sister Emma Mellor, said: “There has been such a fantastic response since we announced we were coming to the Arcade, we really can’t wait to get our new chocolate shop open. We’ve been working on lots of great flavours and ideas for the shop.

Morpeth is a lovely town and a great location for our second store, the next step will be to open the café and tea room in the next few weeks and we’re working on some great menu ideas that we hope our customers will love.”
