New media hub unveiled Barnabas Stobhill Centre

4 August 2016

A brand new community media room has been unveiled this week in Morpeth after a six week makeover which has been supported by local businesses and volunteers.

The team at Sanderson Arcade raised £6,000 for Barnabas Safe and Sound to fund the transformation of one of the rooms at the Barnabas Stobhill Centre to create a new modern and bright media room for the local community.

And to make the funds go a little further local companies have also pitched in to transform the space which was opened to the public for the first time this week.

Players from the FA Vase Winners Morpeth Town FC were on hand to officially open the new facility as well as the team at Barnabas, Sanderson Arcade and other companies and volunteers who have all worked on the project.

The room has been completely transformed with a new ceiling and carpets as well as brightly coloured sofas and shelving. Mobile tablets have also been installed as well as a state of the art projector and interactive screen.

As well as the team from Sanderson Arcade other companies who have supported the project include Castle Carpets, Howdens Joinery, C&W Builders who are Dennis and his team, Press Electrical, Caretech Systems, Alexandra Interiors, Jewsons and Tolent.

The charity was selected as the Arcade’s chosen charity throughout 2015 and staff have organised a number of events including a spinathon and a Bush Tucker Trial to help raise funds. Centre manager Medi Parry also took part in the Great North Run last year and the Tree of Light at Sanderson Arcade, led by Rhona Dunn at the Rotary Club raised £1,000 for the project throughout November and December last year.

Medi said: “The room looks fantastic and everyone who has been involved with the project should feel really proud of what has been achieved. It is such a transformation from the dull and unloved space we started with to this bright, modern room which is going to be a great facility for the local community. “

Hayley Brown Manager of Barnabas Safe and Sound said: “"It is a really exciting time for Barnabas at the Stobhill Centre, last month we opened our brand new Community Gym, and now we have this fantastic new media suite.

“We can’t thank everyone enough for their hard working in pulling this together and we really can’t wait for our first youth club meeting so they can enjoy the new room”
