Summer entertainment lined up at Morpeth Market

17 July 2014

Morpeth Market Place will be hosting a summer of entertainment every Wednesday for the next few weeks and the fun starts on July 23rd.

From buskers to face painters to some more unusual special guests the entertainment will run through until Wednesday August 27th  and opening the entertainment will be Dragons Den Exotics.

Dragons Den Exotics are reptile specialists with more than 100 years of combined experience in the keeping, breeding and research of reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates.

They not only sell reptiles but also have their very own captive breeding projects to ensure all animals have strong genetics and are fit and healthy.

They currently have stores in Newcastle, Blyth and Jarrow which stock everything from the Mexican Red Knee Tarantula to the Puff Faced Water Snake.

Dragons Den Exotics will be bringing a selection of their reptiles down to the Market Place for adults and children to find out more.

Steve Brooks from Dragons Den said: "We actually used to have a shop in Morpeth, so we are thrilled to be back, especially on such a great place like the Morpeth Market. There is always such a buzz around the place and I’m sure with it being the school summer holidays the reptiles will keep the children entertained."

From snakes and lizards to a pony named Aubrey. On Wednesday 6th of August Stepney Banks Stables will be visiting the market place with their very own PR pony named Aubrey.

Stepney Bank Stables say they’re an equestrian centre with a difference. They are open 7 days a week to provide riding lessons to both children and adults; and also operate as a charity providing opportunities for children and young people growing up in challenging situations to grow their confidence, develop their resilience and gain qualifications and experience that will enrich their lives.

Aubrey will also be joined on this date by Scott Martin, an exceptionally talented busker from The King Edwards VI School in Morpeth.

Cllr Nic Best Mayor of Morpeth said: “We are really looking forward to having different activities on the Morpeth Market place every week. It will create a great atmosphere and hopefully encourage those on their school holidays to make a visit!”

Morpeth Market is managed by Northumberland County Council and Sanderson Arcade, working in partnership with Morpeth Town Council, Morpeth Chamber of Trade and other local organisations through the Morpeth Market working group.

The Morpeth Market is held every Wednesday from 9am – 3pm and the Farmers Market is the first Saturday of every month.
