20th anniversary of the Morpeth Farmers’ Market!

28 October 2019

Morpeth’s monthly Farmers’ Market returns this Saturday 2nd November and will be celebrating its 20th anniversary.

The Morpeth Farmers’ Market began in 1999 to coincide with the 800th anniversary celebration of the 1199 Market Charter. Since November 1999 the much-loved Farmers’ Market has proved popular in Morpeth, serving the best local produce and showcasing fantastic entertainment.

This month’s event will feature many Farmers’ Market favourites such as Geordie Bangers, The Honey Store, Castle Bakery, Murphy’s Kitchen and Caribe Coffee Co, plus there will be live music from Aimed Red from 10:30am – 1pm.

The Farmers’ Market will also include traders that have been trading on the market for the past 20 years - including Jimmy the Lamb Man and Ian Byatt from Moorehouse Farm.

Local traders such as Ridley’s Fish and Game, Northern Ark Nursery, Castle Bakery, Timefreezer Photography, Karen Griffiths Art, The Honey Store and Geordie Bangers have all traded regularly over the past decade and have proved popular with visitors to the town.

This Saturday the traders and organisers of the market will mark the special occasion with a celebratory cake cutting to commemorate the long running success. Farmers’ Market regular, Churnhills Kitchen, will be providing the cake.

To further celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Morpeth Farmers’ Market, the original juggling sheep logo for the Northumberland Farmers Markets Association has made a return and can be found on exclusive 20th anniversary canvas bags, available to purchase on the market this weekend.

The juggling sheep logo was originally used from 2000-2004 to promote and help develop the Farmers’ Markets in Northumberland.

Joel Plumley, Centre Manager at Sanderson Arcade, said: “We are delighted to be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Farmers’ Market this weekend and we are proud to play a role in the development and longevity of the monthly event.

“The Morpeth Farmers’ Market is an important staple to Morpeth and showcases some of the best local traders from the North East!”
