Arcade hits the Bulls Eye with Sculpture
11 November 2009
Traffic stopped on Bridge street in Morpeth on Friday November 6th when a three quarter of a tonne sculpture of an Aberdeen Angus bull was craned into place at Morpeth’s new shopping destination.
The life sized metal bull takes pride of place on a canopy above the piazza area of Sanderson Arcade where it is sure to become a talking point with tourists and shoppers alike.
The sculpture, commissioned by the developers of Sanderson Arcade, Morpeth II, was designed and made by award winning sculptor Judy Boyt, to commemorate Morpeth’s history as an important cattle market in the region.
Judy, from Wiltshire, is well known for her equestrian sculptures and is the designer of the famous silver Mitsubishi Badminton Horse Trials Trophy.
“I had great fun trying to get close to these huge animals and the look I have captured is typical of what I got from them as I watched these beautiful beasts,” said Judy.
Mark Dransfield, Managing Director of Morpeth II said: “The Aberdeen Angus is a fantastic new resident for Sanderson Arcade, reflecting Morpeth’s rich history, we are thrilled with Judy’s work and we hope people will enjoy this superb piece of art work.”
The centre opens to the public on Thursday at 10am when people can see the sculpture for themselves.
