Arcade Team Celebrate International Women’s Day

9 March 2020

The team at Sanderson Arcade in Morpeth focussed on some of the centre’s very own inspirational women over the weekend as part of their International Women’s Day celebrations.

The Morpeth shopping centre is 70% run and staffed by women across the Arcade’s offices, stores and management team.  Each business across the centre nominated one inspirational woman and from all the nominations ten were selected. The women were then highlighted on social media with information on their contribution and inspiring story.

Morpeth has a proud Suffragette history as home to Emily Wilding Davison who campaigned for votes for women and died at the Epsom Derby in June 1913 after stepping in front of the Kings horse. Davison House at the Arcade is named in memory of Emily.

Assistant Centre manager at Sanderson Arcade, Lottie Thompson, said: “It’s seems very fitting with the town’s connection to the Suffragette movement that we should celebrate our very own inspirational women here at the centre.

“We’ve been hearing from all our stores and offices at the Arcade to shout about their brilliant female colleagues to mark International Women’s Day, and we’re looking forward to sharing some of their stories.”

IWD 2020 takes place on Sunday March 8th as a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

Below is a snippet of each women’s story;

Angela – Healthlands Ladies Gym

A successful business woman as well as a hands on Mum, Angela has raised thousands of pounds for Breast Cancer Care.

Carys – Hobbs

Carys has worked for Hobbs in Morpeth for 6 years. Bringing all the skills gleaned from her previous careers and her life experience, its thanks to Carys’s drive and organisation and personal flair that Hobbs Morpeth now runs the best in-store events in town. Carys is the happy glue that helps stick the team together.
