Arcade welcomes Nanny Poppins for World Book Day Fun!

12 March 2019

Sanderson Arcade celebrated World Book Day in style last week – bringing one of the nation’s best loved book characters to life.

Nanny Poppins hosted a special meet and greet in Waterstones before leading a special fancy dress parade with youngsters dressed up as their favourite book characters.

Despite some wet and windy weather the youngsters had great fun parading in the piazza area to the sound of “A Spoonful of Sugar.”

From the group of children who took part in the World Book Day Parade a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winner was chosen.

In first place was Harry, aged 6 dressed as Miss Trunchball from Roald Dahls Matilda, 2nd place was Kate, aged 4 as a mini Mary Poppins and in 3rd place was James, aged 4 as Peter Pan.

Each child won a bundle of books donated by Waterstones Morpeth. The Arcade’s gallery has also been decorated with dozens of books as part of the annual event/

World Book Day tokens can be redeemed in Waterstones Morpeth, all you have to do is pop into store and swap it for one of the twelve exlusive, new and completely FREE World Book Day Books.

World Book Day tokens are valid until 31st March 2019.

Assistant centre manager at Sanderson Arcade, Lottie Thompson, said: “This was a fantastic way to celebrate World Book Day. The children loved seeing one of their favourite characters quite literally leaping out of the pages of the book and all the costumes were just fantastic – well done to everyone who took part.”
