Countdown now on for Morpeth Food & Drink Festival

20 August 2019

The countdown is now on to the Annual Morpeth Food and Drink Festival which takes place on the first weekend of October -  Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th.

The annual two-day event has grown year on year and attracts visitors and traders from right across the region – last year visitor numbers almost hit 50,000 across the weekend.

As well as a delicious array of more than 100 local and regional food and drink traders, the event will also showcase the talents of a host of local chefs in the Demo Kitchen which is being hosted by BBC Newcastle’s Matt Bailey.

The kitchen will welcome back Food Festival favourites such as Masterchef Finalist Lorna Robertson and The Old Boat House head chef Martin Charlton.

The event will also feature a live music stage packed with a great line up of local talent and a Street Food Quarter with a range of tasty treats from pizza to burgers, crepes to waffles.

The Posh Pen will also be returning for a second year offering a stylish and secluded alcohol drinking area to enjoy the music.

The year the event team are also launching the Vegan Hall - Morpeth Town Hall will be filled with speciality vegan produce.

And there’s also a push to reduce single use plastics – organisers have banned plastic bags, straws, sauce sachets as well as other items – traders are also being issued with 50 branded paper bags which are 100% recyclable as an incentive to be more green.

A specialist Green Team will also be on site for the two days, exploring ways to reduce waste and overseeing the new plastic policy.

The Food Festival is organised by the Sanderson Arcade team working with a small committee made up of members from Northumberland County Council, Morpeth Town Council, Morpeth and District Chamber of Trade as well as other groups and stakeholders in the town.

Joel Plumley, Centre Manager at Sanderson Arcade and part of the Food Festival team, said: “The Morpeth Food and Drink Festival is a really important date in the town’s diary and attracts thousands of visitors into Morpeth.

“We want to continue to build and grow the event every year and we are extremely proud to have a team of great sponsors on board to help us deliver another fantastic town wide event for 2019.”
