Game changing town centre development celebrates 15th anniversary!

13 November 2024

Morpeth’s award-winning Sanderson Arcade celebrates its 15th anniversary this week just as the centre prepares for the busy Christmas period.

Sanderson Arcade was officially opened on 12th November 2009 by Dame Joanna Lumley OBE – 15 years later businesses, stakeholders and guests are joining the centre’s development team and owners, Dransfield Properties, to celebrate the milestone for the town centre development.

The redevelopment of the Arcade transformed a former run-down shopping Arcade, making Morpeth one of the north east’s leading retail destinations which now has a retail line up including Oliver Bonas, The White Company and Mint Velvet.

Reiker Shoes is the latest company to open at Sanderson Arcade with a brand-new store launching just this week in a prime unit at the Bridge Street entrance to the centre.

The centre remains fully let and many of the original retailers are still part of the town centre development’s line up - including M&S, Fat Face, Central Bean, Clarks and the family run business Jewellers Guild.

The development has been transformational in the town and has been followed over the last decade and a half by further major investments, including a new Morrisons store in 2013 and the redevelopment of the former Morrisons in 2016, delivering more town centre retail and leisure space.

Chairman of Dransfield Properties, Mark Dransfield, said: “We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved at Sanderson Arcade over the last two decades and I hope it shows what a difference investing in our town centres can make.

“It is great to see the many businesses who were here on that opening day in 2009 but also to welcome the new business that have been attracted to the town and seen the opportunity here in Morpeth.

“This year we have welcomed Oliver Bonas and The White Company and just this week Reiker Shoes opened. The Arcade and the town continues to attract really good calibre retailers which really is testament to the confidence in the town.  We are incredibly lucky to have a great team at Sanderson Arcade who take a real pride in the centre.”

The 15th birthday will be celebrated with a special reception at Barluga at Sanderson Arcade on Thursday.
