High hopes for blooming marvellous displays at Morpeth’s Sanderson Arcade!
20 July 2011
Not a petal was out of place at Sanderson Arcade this week as the Northumbria In Bloom judges visited the town centre development.
The team of judges visited the town earlier this week to view Morpeth’s entry in this year’s competition – taking in Sanderson Arcade as part of their tour.
Morpeth has won the title of best town in Northumbria in Bloom for the last five years and has also been named runner up in Britain in Bloom several times.
Last year Sanderson Arcade won the best shopping area category for Northumbria so the stakes were high for Raymond Dixon – the man responsible for the centre’s landscaping.
Raymond and his father in law – local trader Bob Penman – have worked round the clock in recent weeks to wow the judges with a riot of floral colour.
Raymond said: “It is a fantastic thing to be involved with and I really hope the judges were impressed, we’ve certainly worked hard to come up with something special for this year and we’ve had some really lovely comments from shoppers.”
Entrants in Northumbria in Bloom will find out in September if they’ve been successful – Debbie Anderson, centre manager at Sanderson Arcade said everyone across the town has pulled together to produce some fantastic floral displays.
She added: “The whole town looks amazing and here at Sanderson Arcade Raymond and Bob have been working until mid-night these last few days in the run up to the competition to make sure everything is just right.
“The judges seemed impressed with what they saw and we’ll certainly have our fingers crossed!”
