Morpeth prepares for BIG Christmas build up next month

30 October 2018

The big build up to Christmas in Morpeth gets underway next month with a fabulously festive three day event organised by Sanderson Arcade in partnership with Morpeth Town Council.

Sponsored by Duchy Homes, the three day Morpeth Christmas Celebration will take place on Bridge Street from Thursday 15th November through to Saturday 17th November.

On Thursday and Friday the town will host the first Morpeth Christmas Market with a variety of foodie traders as well as street food and rides, running from 12pm – 8pm on both days.

And Saturday 17th November will see the official Morpeth Lights Switch On event with the whole town coming together to switch on their lights at the same time, followed by a festive fireworks display.

The Christmas Market will still be in place and a live stage will be set up on Bridge Street. Entertainment will start at 1pm with a line up including; Morpeth All Saints Choir, Ellington Colliery Band and Voice of the Town!

The Lights Switch On Event will be hosted by Heart Breakfast hosts, Justin and Kelly and SPARK! will also be performing  their spectacular light and drum display. SPARK! will entertain the crowds with two performances - one before and after the big switch on.

In addition to this Morpeth Town Council will hold their annual Mistletoe Fair in Morpeth Town Hall.

There will also be the chance to meet and greet Santa and Mrs Claus in Sanderson Arcade during the Switch On Event – they can be found next to the Christmas tree in the centre of the Arcade from 2pm – 4:30pm.

The team organising the event are on the lookout for a special helper to switch on the lights with Santa. The competition will be running from Thursday 1st November until Monday 12th November and all you have to do is tell us in a few words why you should be Santa’s special helper and turn the Morpeth Christmas Lights On with him.

Competition application forms can be picked up from either Morpeth Town Hall or stores at Sanderson Arcade.

The Morpeth Tree of Light will also be illuminated at the event to mark the start of the Christmas fundraising appeal. The money raised will be shared between the Mayor’s Charity, MIND, Henry Dancer Days and the Arcade’s chosen charity for 2018/19 which is Cleaswell Hill School.

The three-day event is sponsored by Duchy Homes who are currently working on a 13 house development at Fulbeck Grange, bringing new 5 bedroomed luxury homes to Morpeth. To find out more visit www.duchyhomes.co.uk.

Centre manager at Sanderson Arcade Joel Plumley said: “We are delighted to have the support of Duchy Homes for our big three day event and their involvement means we can really build on this popular annual event.

“It’s also great to be working with the Town Council – this is always our biggest event of the year and we have a really great line up planned to get Christmas off to a fantastic start.”
