Morpeth prepares for biggest and best annual Food and Drink Festival!

1 October 2018

The sixth annual Morpeth Food and Drink Festival is back this weekend and the event’s organisers are promising it’s going to be bigger and better than ever!

The two day festival, sponsored by Lexus Newcastle, runs over Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th October – opening from 9am-5pm on Saturday and continuing on the Sunday from 10am-4pm.

The fun filled weekend will host more than 100 traders who will line Bridge Street with some of the tastiest food and drink treats from right across the region!

The Market Place will be host to the Farmers’ Market which will run on both days of the weekend festival with a fabulous selection of local produce.

Joel Plumley, Centre Manager at Sanderson Arcade said:  “We are so excited to see the return of the Food and Drink Festival. It is a great event for the whole family and such a lovely way to showcase what Morpeth has to offer.”

Market Square is also the location for the popular Demo Kitchen which will be featuring some of the best chefs from the area. Returning this year in the demo kitchen is MasterChef finalist Lorna Robertson, as well as Morpeth’s own Giovanni Marabini from Lollo Rosso.

A host of other chefs will join them in the kitchen which is sponsored by Morpeth and District Chamber of Trade.

The main Saturday entertainment Morpeth Pipe Band will be marching down Newgate Street at 11:30am, and the main Sunday entertainment, Mason Cummins Academy of Irish Dancing will be there at 11:30am to entertain the crowds.

The Live music stage is also returning this year with a range of brilliant performers who will take to the stage throughout the two day fun.

Sponsored by Morpeth Town Council the entertainment line-up will include some of the best performers from the region including the Voice of the Town and the Northern Railroad Collective.

Next to the stage is this year’s new Posh Pen where festival goers can enjoy a tipple while enjoying the wonderful musical performances.  A Street Food Quarter will also have a tasty selection of takeaway favorites from burgers to donuts.

The Festival is also introducing its first “Talk and Tasters”  sponsored by Strutt and Parker in the Town Hall. Visitors can drop in for some insightful discussions and tasting sessions about cocktails, gin and craft beer.

Entertainment for younger visitors includes face painting, stilt walkers Punch and Judy Shows and a fairground carousel.

A free Park and Ride service, sponsored by Northern Gas Networks, will run every half an hour from County Hall to Morpeth Bus Station.
