Morpeth prepares for biggest and best annual Food and Drink Festival this weekend!

The popular annual event celebrating all things foodie is back this weekend in the centre of Morpeth. 

On Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th October more than 100 traders will be serving the best local food and drink joined by a great line up of chef demonstrations and live music. The event has grown over the last few years with visitor numbers hitting over 45,000 across the weekend in 2018. 

There will be carousel rides as well as free face painting for young visitors as well as a colouring area and special appearances by Alice in a Wonderland, Mary Poppins and Sleeping Beauty. 

For the adults, The Posh Pen is returning for the second time - providing the perfect place for an afternoon tipple while listening to fantastic live performances.  The secluded drinking area has popular traders The Merry Mare and The Little Gin Pot serving stylish British gin and prosecco. 

The Posh Pen is sponsored by the Morpeth & District Chamber of Trade. Sanderson Arcade are also welcoming Newcastle Gin for a special pop up in partnership with Barluga Morpeth which will be within the centre of the Arcade.

One of the most popular features of the festival are the chef demonstrations. This year the demo kitchen will welcome festival favourites Masterchef finalist Lorna Robertson and award-winning local chef Martin Charlton.

There will also be some new faces - including coffee specialist Wilmer Carcamo who will be providing the ultimate coffee discussion and award-winning restauranteur Anna Hedworth; Anna is a food writer and chef proprietor of Cook House. 

The chef demonstrations will run between 10am to 4pm on Saturday and 10am to 3pm on Sunday and the demo kitchen is sponsored by Barratt Homes.

The live music stage will be by The Chantry on Bridge Street, sponsored by Morpeth Town Council it will feature some of the best local talent. Performers include The Voice of the Town, Matt Dunbar and Tenth Avenue. The stage will be running between 10am to 5pm on Saturday and 11am to 4pm on Sunday. Also don’t miss big performances from The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers from 11:30am on Saturday and Morpeth Pipe Band From 11:30am on Sunday.

Over 100 of the best local food and drink traders will be selling their fantastic produce on Bridge Street throughout the weekend. Delicious baked goods, artisan meats and cheeses, excellent local gin, and glorious cakes will feature, and The Farmers Market can be found in the Market Place throughout the weekend. 

There will also be a new vegan area for this year’s Festival and the Street Food Quarter will be serving up some all the takeaway favourites.

Porsche Centre Newcastle are this year’s premium sponsor and will also have a display at the Festival.

Park and Ride services will be running throughout the weekend from 9am to 5:30pm on Saturday and 10am to 4:30pm on Sunday. The buses will be running from County Hall to Morpeth Bus Station. The service is free and sponsored by Northern Gas Networks.

This year’s Festival will also be the greenest one yet with traders encouraged to avoid single use plastics. The organisers are also employing a Green Team in order to monitor the use of non-sustainable materials. 

The festival is free of charge and opens at 9am on Saturday 5th October.
