7 September 2017

It’s just four weeks away from Morpeth’s annual Food and Drink Festival and the organisers of this year’s event have a got a packed weekend of events lined up to put the town on the region’s foodie map.

The annual event was launched five years ago and has grown year on year  – this October it will be staged over two days with a full weekend of events running on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th of October.

The countdown to the popular event has started this week with the unveiling of a striking display which has been installed this week at Sandersons Arcade promoting the town’s first two day Food and Drink Festival.

After weeks of road works on one of the main access routes into the town businesses in Morpeth are now looking forward to shouting about everything the market town has to offer with record number expecting to attend this year’s event.

Ken Brown from Morpeth Town Team said: “The roadworks have now been completed and the Food Festival is a real opportunity to let everyone know that Morpeth is open for business – we are looking forward to a fabulous weekend of food themed fun and entertainment across the whole town.

“It is incredible how the Food and Drink Festival has grown over the last five years and everyone involved with this year’s Festival has worked really hard to make this a wonderful two day event.”

As well as cooking demonstrations, live musical entertainment and more than 100 stalls the town’s talented amateur cooks will also be given the opportunity to showcase their talents in their bid to win first prize in the jam, scone and sweet pie competitions at this year’s Festival.

The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers will be marching down Newgate Street during the event on the Saturday and this year will also see the return of the O2 music stage which will be located near the Chantry.

A Park and Ride scheme sponsored by Northern Gas Networks will be running from County Hall.
