Morpeth Stakeholders Work Together to Promote the Town

15 July 2019

Business leaders, local councillors and trade organisations across the North East market town of Morpeth have formed a new working group to help promote their town.

An initial stakeholder meeting was held earlier this month to bring a wide range of groups and businesses together to build on the excellent work on events and promotions across the town and to work together.

A key group of stakeholders pulled together to work on a campaign against an out of town retail development on the edge of Morpeth two years ago which would have had a detrimental effect on the retail heart of the town. That group as well as others are now working together to promote the town.

Representatives from the Morpeth and District Chamber of Trade, Sanderson Arcade, Newgate Street Traders joined the Town Council as well as Northumberland County Council, Morpeth Markets and Morpeth Rugby Club as well as several town centre businesses.

The group discussed the Morpeth Food and Drink Festival as well as plans for Festive events in the town. They now plan to meet regularly to ensure that all key stakeholders are involved and up to       date with what’s happening in the town.

Centre manager at Sanderson Arcade Joel Plumley, said: “We are really fortunate here in Morpeth to have so many great groups and organisations with such a fantastic range of skills and expertise.

“It is really important that we all continue to work together to shout about the town and ensure that our town wide events keep getting bigger and better. We’ve had a really productive first meeting bringing everyone together with lots of exciting plans and ideas to discuss.”

Morpeth’s next big town-wide event is the Morpeth Book Festival on the 20th to the 22nd of September followed by the Morpeth Food and Drink Festival which takes place on the weekend of the  7th and 8th of October.
