Morpeth’s Young People Paint the Town Red, White and Blue

Over 2,000 budding young artists have created their own patchwork design for a giant Platinum Jubilee display at Sanderson Arcade.

Throughout May, primary school children across Morpeth, have created their very own patch showcasing what the Jubilee means to them. All patches have then been combined into huge patchwork flags and hung for shoppers and families to admire across the four-day extravaganza.

Lottie Thompson, Centre Manager at Sanderson Arcade, said: “What better way to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee than by painting our gallery red, white and blue with the help of all the talented youngsters in Morpeth.

“We have loved seeing the creativity involved in each patch and by combining different styles together we’ve created one of our favourite displays yet. We have seen everything from crowns and corgis to teapots and queens.”

Alongside the display, the centre team will also be hosting a packed schedule of celebrations across the bank holiday including live music through the ages on Friday June 3rd and a themed Farmers’ Market on Saturday June 4th.

All details on the Jubilee weekend can be found on the Sanderson Arcade website and if you can’t make it down over the bank holiday weekend, the children’s artwork will be on display until the beginning of July.
