Record Breaking Numbers Turn Out For Morpeth’s Big Christmas Light Switch on

20 November 2018

Crowds turned out in their thousands at last week’s three-day Christmas celebration in Morpeth.

On Thursday 15th and Friday 16th November the town welcomed back the Coca Cola Christmas truck for a second year which was accompanied by a full festive market with the very best street food vendors from the region.

On Saturday 18th November the annual Christmas Lights switch on event returned to the town with the Town Centre and Sanderson Arcade joining forces to deliver one huge celebration.

The live music stage was located on Bridge Street and the whole event was hosted by Heart Breakfast’s Justin & Kelly.

Saturday was packed with a full line up of live entertainment including SPARK Worldbeaters drummers, Voice of the Town Choir and Ellington Colliery Band.

The lights were officially switched on by Morpeth Mayor Cllr Jack Gebhard, Mr & Mrs Claus and their elves, Justin & Kelly, John Barnes and family from Duchy Homes and our special Santa Helpers Max and Theo Dodds who won Santa’s Helper competition.

There was also a Santa’s Grotto in the Arcade’s piazza area, festive stilt walkers and a special performance from Morpeth All Saints School Choir.

The Christmas Market was open for all three days over the festive weekend, with a wide selection of foodie treats and great Christmas gift ideas from fantastic local traders.

The three day celebration sponsored by Duchy Homes was brought to a climactic close with a spectacular firework display which could be seen all across the town.

Sanderson Arcade Centre Manager Joel Plumley said “We have truly welcomed in the festive season this week with a two-day visit from the Coca- Cola truck and our even bigger Christmas lights switch on event in partnership with Morpeth Town Council!

“We love to see everyone getting into the Christmas spirit and we have lots of festive entertainment planned for the upcoming weeks.”

The three day celebration was organised by Sanderson Arcade in partnership with Morpeth Town Council.
