Schools Take Part in Creating New Postcards to Promote Morpeth Market

For the fourth year running the team behind Morpeth Market have celebrate NAMBA’s  Love Your Local Market campaign. 

The campaign is the UK’s largest annual celebration of retail and wholesale markets and runs from 17th – 31st May 2019, with Morpeth Weekly Market celebrating the campaign on Wednesday 22nd and 29th, with local traders and live music.

This year the market team have have involved the local first schools, St. Roberts RC First School and Morpeth All Saints First School. Pupils were asked to create a postcard promoting the town’s markets and to encourage people to visit the town. 

Four winners have been chosen by the Morpeth Market Committee made up of members from Sanderson Arcade, Morpeth Town Council and Northumberland County Council. 

The winners include two students from Morpeth All Saints and two from St. Roberts RC First School. 

Callum, Age 8, Morpeth All Saints. 

Emma , Age 9, Morpeth All Saints. 

Jennifer, Age 8, St. Roberts. 

Jack, Age 8, St. Roberts. 

The winning postcards will be produced and distributed around the North East to encourage shoppers to visit Morpeth.

In addition to this, Local Councillors visited the weekly market on Wednesday 22nd May for the annual tour of the Morpeth Market Place guided by county wide markets manager, Neil Brown. 

Morpeth Market is managed by Northumberland County Council and Sanderson Arcade, working in partnership with Morpeth Town Council, Morpeth and District Chamber of Trade and other local organisations through the Morpeth Market working group.

Joel Plumley, centre manager at Sanderson Arcade, said: “We are very proud to work in partnership with other stakeholders to support the wonderful markets we have here in Morpeth. The postcards the pupils have designed look fantastic, it’s been a great project for the schools to be involved with.” 

The Morpeth Weekly Market is held every Wednesday from 9am - 3:30pm and the Farmers Market is the first Saturday of every month. The next Farmers Market is Saturday 3rd June 2018.
