The Foodie Guide to Mopeth Food & Drink Festival 2019

24 September 2019

The team behind the Morpeth Food and Drink Festival are preparing to welcome thousands of visitors to the town as the annual event returns next weekend.

On Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th October the festival will see over 100 traders located on Bridge Street, Morpeth, selling quality local produce and crafts catering to all with a Vegan area, Farmers market, Street Food Quarter and a Posh Pen drinking area.

The brand-new Vegan area will launch at this year’s festival and will be located opposite the Town Hall, bringing Vegan friendly baked goods from Bake for the Soul, The Naked Foodie and The Lily Tree Bakery. Authentic vegan street food traders, Parallel7, will also be there serving delicious vegan meals.

Morpeth’s very own vegan cafe, Healthy Prep Kitchen are set to host a pop-up event in Mint Velvet. They will also be kicking off the cooking demonstrations at the demo kitchen on Saturday 5th October at 10am.

The weekly Farmers Market will run in its usual spot in the Market Place and will feature favourite Morpeth traders including Geordie Bangers, Bread & Roses and Murphy’s Kitchen. The Morpeth Farmers’ Market takes place every first Saturday of the month.

This year’s festival will bring a host of many traders to the town, selling everything from brownies and other baked goods to local cheeses and meats. Cookie Freaks, Brownie Bar and North Chocolates are amongst some of the traders selling sweet treats, as well as Sanderson Arcade’s own Pudding Parlour.

The Cheese Board and Northumbrian Sausage Company will be providing the very best local meats and cheeses. The last slot on Sunday at the demo kitchen is the fantastic chef Silver Shelden of Hadrians Game Larder teaching attendees all about game. Pie Demand, Northumbrian Smokehouse and Urban Bakery will be serving local savoury favourites.

There will also be alcohol venders attending this year, including Mason’s Yorkshire Gin and Muckle Brewing. There will also be a Newcastle Gin Bar in the center of Sanderson Arcade’s piazza area.

Located towards the bottom of Bridge Street will be the Street Food Quarter serving everything on-the-go from freshly made waffles from The Waffle Co, to gourmet sandwiches from Hatch 76.

The festival’s secluded drinking area, the Posh Pen, will be located next to the Street Food Quarter and is the perfect place for an afternoon tipple. This year’s Posh Pen traders are The Merry Mare and The Little Gin Pot which will open at 11am on Saturday 5th October.

Both the Street Food Quarter and the Posh Pen will be located next to the Live Music Stage so you can enjoy excellent food, a drink and wonderful entertainment!

The free event opens 9am on Saturday 5th, and 10am Sunday 6th October. The main event area can be found on Bridge Street in the town centre, with additional activities in Sanderson Arcade
