The great British barbecue is celebrated at Morpeth Farmer’s Market this month

30 June 2014

It’s Farmer’s Market in Morpeth on Saturday July 5th and this month’s event will have a special barbecue theme.

The great British barbie will be celebrated by traders and producers at the market and David McDonald of Geordie Bangers is getting ready to cook up some of his delicious sausages for the occasion.

Geordie Bangers are third generation sausage makers with years of experience – their sausages are all made from high quality meats and always with a Geordie twist. Flavours include hog roast, Stilton, brown ale and black pudding and white pepper. There’s also a slim and tasty, and Geordie chorizo to name just a few.

The packs are priced at £3.80 each or 3 for £10 and are perfect for a barbecue.

David said: “It’s great being able to have the barbecue at the market on the go so that people can not only buy a great sandwich on the day but it really gives them a chance to try before they buy!”

Also joining in with the barbecue theme are Richard Tolson from Northumberland Poultry and Karen Wilkin from Swallow Fish.

Northumberland free range poultry are a business formed by like minded farmers based in Northumberland – their main focus is to produce top quality poultry that is free range, organic and local.

Swallow Fish use traditional smoke houses for their smoked salmon,  cod, haddock, mussels, prawns and kippers, a method that has been used since 1843, the method involves using hanging sticks in wood to smoke the fish.

Their best selling products are smoked haddock and kipper fillets. As well as being able to buy your fresh fish from the stall, this month customers can also grab a bite to eat while enjoying the market.

Swallow Fish make hot kippers in a bun on the barbecue along with fresh crab sandwiches which can all be found at the July Farmer’s Market.

Morpeth Market is managed by Northumberland County Council and Sanderson Arcade, working in partnership with Morpeth Town Council, Morpeth and District Chamber of Trade and other local organisations through the Morpeth market working group.
