Thousands enjoy Sanderson Arcade’s first Garden Lovers Fair

23 April 2019

Sanderson Arcade held its first ever Garden Lovers Fair over the Easter weekend (Saturday 20th April) which saw a range of local nursery and planting traders come to Morpeth, selling everything from tomato plants to perennial planters.

A line up of local garden experts held talks and demonstrations in the centre of Arcade, hosted by BBC Newcastle’s Garden Mania host Marian Foster.

Local gardening experts shared their tips on spring and summer planting, including Sanderson Arcade’s very own gardener of 9 years, Raymond Dixon, who revealed how to create ‘in bloom’ award-winning hanging baskets.

Keen young gardeners were encouraged to sow their own sunflowers and decorate plant pots as well as adding to the Arcades very own ‘Buggingham Palace’; a bug hotel which will be featured in Stanley Terrace wild flower area to accommodate creepy crawlies and promote recycling and local wildlife.

Sanderson Arcade Centre Manager Joel Plumley said: “We had a fantastic day at the Garden Lovers Fair over the weekend and we welcomed lots of new faces to the area. We are already really excited to bring this event back next year!”

The event also promoted ‘Morpeth in Bloom’, with an exhibition from Morpeth Town Council showcasing everything the town and its partners work towards for the Northumbria and Britain in bloom awards. Judging for this year’s spring Northumbria in Bloom will take place on Thursday 25th April.
